Crossing our Borders. Documentary coming soon!
'Crossing Our Borders: is an 86-minute documentary series that features the dramatic stories of people whose lives have been shattered by corruption, crime and impunity in some Latin-American countries. This corruption and impunity has caused massive illegal immigration, human smuggling, and drug trafficking into the U.S. The dramatic stories of these individuals and the analysis of experts about the decline of political, economic and social institutions in these regions will provide a real understanding to the public television audiences in North America, Latin-America and around the world. ‘Crossing Our Borders: is also known under the working title ‘Teatro Vacio: Complacency and Corruption in Latin-America.’ It is being produced under the fiscal sponsorship of New York Women in Film and Television, tax ID number is: 13-2983705.
'Crossing our Borders' seeks to provide a balanced and reasoned view of some of the Western Hemisphere’s worst public circumstances caused in part by 21st century dictators, with educated and enlightened analyses from experts on these issues. The documentary features the grinding poverty in Latin-America and how the breakdown of democratic government creates an insidious stew of fear and loathing in citizen of Latin America. Alberto Fujimori, (in power from 1992-1996) dismantled Peru’s government institutions and violated basic human rights. Hugo Chavez (in power from 1999-present) has dismantled the government in Venezuela and terrorized the country’s citizens while corruption, poverty and crime have severely increased.
Finally, the documentary identifies and analyzes the reform efforts in various Latin-American nations to improve democracy in their regions. Some countries have progressed toward a new accountability and recovery from chronic, long-term governmental decline.
